2023 thus far has been pretty good. No one in my family died this year. Except, I did lose my cat. I can't think about it right now, else I will cry.
I lost my dad and sister in 2020 (dad) and 2022 (sister). So the fact that we are all still alive and healthy in 2023 is a win for me.
Aside from that, 2023 has been really good. I am growing in my wellness business, I have written over 100 articles, and my content strategy is coming together.
My biggest problem with business and personal life is I try to do too much at once. Anyone else? I am 100% sure I am not the only one.
I keep telling myself “Do less to accomplish more”.
I am working intentionally on doing less and being more focused on growth strategies.
That brings me to goals.
With 2024 just around the corner, I am feeling excited for the year ahead.
Are you feeling it yet?
It is when people generally start thinking about resolutions for the new year.
But, resolutions often fail because they are too vague or unrealistic. They also may be based on external pressures rather than a genuine desire for change.
Things like losing weight, saving more money, eating healthier, or exercising more are too broad and not specific enough.
The key to making a resolution work is to make it a small, actionable goal instead.
That is where my idea for 90-day goals instead of resolutions came into play.
Think about it. 90 days is a manageable timeframe. It’s long enough to make significant progress toward your goals but short enough that it doesn’t feel overwhelming.
By breaking the year into smaller chunks, we can stay focused and motivated, knowing that we have
a clear deadline to work towards.
How I am working my 90-day goals for 2024 (and the rest of 2023)
>>>I am starting with a brain dump of everything I would like to accomplish for 2024 (or whatever time frame I am working on).
>>>Then I will go through my list and circle the top 5 things that will support growth. This part is hard for me. I want to do it all and I want to do it right now.
It helps me to keep a ‘long list’ of the items that I want to work on in the future. It seems to put my mind at rest to at least have future goals on a list that I can reference when I have my current goals completed.
>>>At that point, it is time to break each of the 5 goals into monthly actions that will be broken down into weekly hyper-specific action tasks.
These are the tasks will I need to do to accomplish each goal, but broken down into small and realistic actions that I can fairly easily do.
Do you see how creating a hyper-specific task vs stating a big goal tricks your brain into action because it is small and doable?
For example…
Big goal: lose weight.
Monthly action: reduce consumption of processed foods
Hyper-specific task: on week 1 of my weight loss journey I will reduce soda consumption from 3 drinks per day to just one drink per day.
The big goal of losing weight isn’t really a starting point. It is just a goal without action.
It’s important to create an action plan of hyper-specific tasks for the big goal.
One of my 90-day goals for 2024 is to grow my newsletter.
Here’s how I will break my newsletter goal down into actionable hyper-specific tasks.
Big goal: grow my newsletter
Monthly action: increase subscriber count by 100
Hyper-specific tasks: week 1 of January 2024 —
- create a plant-based 7-day meal plan with recipes for a freebie to get new subs
- create a landing page for the freebie
- promote once per week on Instagram and Tiktok with a CTA to my landing page
- at the end of the week, review analytics and subscriber growth

I can tell you right now that if I don’t break this down into small actionable tasks, I won’t get it done.
One of the top reasons that I think 90-day goals work better than resolutions is that the shorter time frame mindset fosters a sense of accomplishment and momentum for the next 90 days.
Achieving a goal within a relatively short timeframe can be incredibly rewarding. It boosts confidence and motivates me to keep pushing forward.
It’s like a snowball effect. Each success builds upon the last, propelling me towards even greater achievements. I love it!
So, as we approach the new year, I invite you to join me in embracing the incredible power of 90-day goals. Let’s leave behind the tradition of broad resolutions and instead move into 2024 with focused and intentional growth.
Share your thoughts on 90-day goals in the comments and let’s inspire each other for 2024!
