17 Habits To Practice at Home To Cultivate More Happiness in Your Life


We all have those days when a little extra boost of joy is needed, even for someone like me who usually feels pretty happy. That's why I love having a go-to list of happiness habits as a gentle nudge to prioritize my own self-care and well-being.


If our cups aren't at least half full, how can we possibly conquer the world and be there for others?


Remember, your most valuable asset is YOU! So, here's a list of 17 simple yet powerful habits to sprinkle some happiness into your daily routine. Try one today and see how it brightens your day.

17 Happiness Habits


  1. Have a dance party at any time
  2. Meditation in the morning
  3. Drink water before caffeine in the morning
  4. Surround yourself with plants
  5. Choose nutrient-dense add-ons to your meals — nutritious foods can give you more energy and reduce brain fog
  6. Sleeeeeeep — get your 7–8 for optimal health/happiness
  7. Start a gratitude journal — write 1–3 things you are grateful for every day
  8. Play a board game! Don’t have a ton of free time? Set a timer and play for 15 minutes. Leave the game out on the table until the next 15 free minutes you have
  9. Try a weighted blanket and/or a weighted mask for sleep — my all-time favorites
  10. Give someone who lives in your house a 10-second hug
  11. Take 15 minutes to learn something new, then share what you learned
  12. Play music that makes you happy while you shower, cook, clean, etc
  13. Speed clean! Cleanliness can = happy. But no one loves cleaning, right! I like to set a timer for cleaning, which forces me to ‘speed’ through it and get it done at warp speed!
  14. Try box breathing — it’s so calming (and can help you with sleep)
  15. Create an atmosphere when you cook. I light a candle, pour some kombucha into a wine glass and put on a cooking show
  16. Color in an adult (or children’s) coloring book — this is pretty pure serenity work!
  17. Gentle exercise — get the endorphins and energy flowing with some exercise that YOU enjoy
